What we hold, and why

The short version

We hold as little as we can, we use it only to make and send what you asked for, andwe do not sell it or share it with anybody for marketing. Ever.

The names on the leaves

This is the part that matters most to us. A name on a leaf is usually somebody who has died, and it reaches us through a hospice, a hospital or a family.

• We hold the name and any second line exactly as it was given to us, because it has to be cut correctly and because a leaf sometimes has to be remade years later
• We hold which tree it belongs to, so the piece goes to the right place
• We do not hold anything else about that person. No records, no dates beyond what is on the leaf, nothing about how they died
• These names are never used for marketing, never published, and never passed to anybody outside making the piece

If you order from us

We hold your name, email address, organisation and phone number if you give it, and what you ordered. We use it to make the piece, to talk to you about it, and to keep the accounts HMRC requires.

Payment

Card payments are handled by Stripe. We never see or store your card details. Stripe holds them under their own terms.

Who else sees anything

• Our cutter receives the cutting files, which contain the names to be cut and nothing else. No addresses, no contact details
• Stripe for payment, and Wix andNetlify who run the site and the accounts
• Our accountant and HMRC, for the records the law requires

That is the whole list. No advertisers, no data brokers, no mailing lists.

How long we keep it

Order records for six years, because tax law says so. The names on a tree we keep for as long as that tree stands, because a leaf may need remaking and because a family coming back years later should not have to spell it out again. Ask us to remove something and we will.

What you can ask for

A copy of what we hold about you, a correction, or deletion. Email info@forjd.co.uk and we will answer within a month, usually a lot sooner. If we get it wrong you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

Cookies

The public pages set no tracking or advertising cookies. Logging in to an account sets what is needed to keep you signed in, and nothing more.

If you are a fundraiser wondering what you can promise a family about their name, the answer is: it is used to make the leaf and to remake it if it is ever needed, and nothing else. Email us and we will put that in writing for you.
